6000.18: THE ELEMENTARY PROGRAM



18.1

Objectives

The curriculum of the Elementary School must be designed to develop in children the following:

18.1.1 An understanding that the Bible is the only authoritative basis for an individual’s moral development, faith and spiritual practice;
18.1.2 Basic skills and understanding in reading, oral and written communication, and mathematics;
18.1.3 Essential knowledge in the fields of life, physical, and social science;
18.1.4 Basic skills in computer literacy and technology
18.1.5 Habits conducive to wholesome development in the areas of physical growth and health
18.1.6 Appreciation of literature, drama, music, art and basic skills in these artistic expressions;
18.1.7 The ability to think, act, and research independently;
18.1.8 Willingness to accept responsibility;
18.1.9 An appreciation of cultural diversity;
18.1.10 Ability to live and function in a social setting and to establish a wholesome relationship with God, adults, and peers.
18.1.11 Moral, ethical and patriotic values.
18.2 Program Standards
 
18.2.1

All instruction in the following required disciplines must be taught from a distinctly Christian viewpoint integrating faith to learning:

18.2.1.1 Bible (and worship)
18.2.1.2 Language Arts (including reading, writing and oral communication)
18.2.1.3 Mathematics
18.2.1.4 Life and physical sciences
18.2.1.5 Social Studies
18.2.1.6 Health and physical education
18.2.1.7 Art, music, drama and crafts
18.2.1.8 Computer science
18.2.2

The school must offer at least five (5) of the following co-curricular activities:

18.2.2.1 Foreign language study
18.2.2.2 Chorus
18.2.2.3 Band
18.2.2.4 Orchestra
18.2.2.5 Intramural sports
18.2.2.6 Interscholastic sports
18.2.2.7 Student government
18.2.2.8 Community service
18.2.2.9 Clubs such as drama, chess, puppetry, etc.
18.2.2.10 Prayer and Bible study groups
18.2.2.11 Chapel
18.2.2.12 Safety Patrol
18.2.3

At least four of the following instructional methods or strategies must be evidenced in the elementary program and should include:

18.2.3.1 A multi-sensory approach
18.2.3.2 Use of learning centers
18.2.3.3 Cooperative learning groups
18.2.3.4 Peer coaching
18.2.3.5 Large group, small group and individualized instruction
18.2.3.6 Computerized instruction
18.2.4 Classroom equipment and furnishings must be adequate to meet educational objectives and program requirements.
18.2.5 Instructional materials must be adequate to meet educational objectives and program requirements.
18.2.6 Use of the library/media center by students at all grade levels must be evident.
18.2.7 Instruction in computer technology and integration of computerized learning must be evident.
