6000.19: MIDDLE SCHOOL / JUNIOR HIGH PROGRAM



19.1

Objectives

The Middle School (grades 6, 7, and 8) and/or Junior High (grades 7 and 8) curriculum must be designed to meet the following objectives:

19.1.1 Gain a deeper understanding of God, His Word and its relevancy to personal faith and Christian walk.
19.1.2 Develop an appreciation of various kinds of literature and literary styles.
19.1.3 Develop competency in written communication.
19.1.4 Develop confidence in expressing thoughts and opinions through oral communication and listening skills
19.1.5 Develop competency in mathematics, abstract thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
19.1.6 Develop a greater understanding of scientific principles through inquiry, exploration and experimentation.
19.1.7 Develop a greater understanding of computer technology and its application, as well as skill in computer use.
19.1.8 Develop physical conditioning and wholesome health habits.
19.1.9 Develop an appreciation for the creative arts, as well as develop talent in artistic expression.
19.1.10 Develop an appreciation for other cultures.
19.1.11 Develop the ability to think, act and research independently.
19.1.12 Provide opportunities for the development of personal interests or talents through a variety of activities.
19.1.13 Provide opportunities for Christian service.

 

19.1.14 Provide opportunities for interpersonal relationships and social interactions through a variety of activities and events.
19.1.15 Develop a fuller understanding of being created in the image of God.

 

19.1.16 Provide guidance and counsel for spiritual, academic, and emotional needs.

 

19.2 Program Standards
19.2.1 The following disciplines must be offered and taught from a distinctly Christian viewpoint, integrating faith to learning:
19.2.1.1 Bible and worship
19.2.1.2 English (Grammar, Vocabulary, Literature, Communication Skills)
19.2.1.3 Mathematics (General or Advanced)
19.2.1.4 Science (Life and Physical Science)
19.2.1.5 Social Studies (Geography, World History , United States History)
19.2.1.6 Health Education
19.2.1.7 Physical Education
19.2.1.8 Fine Arts (Music and Art)
19.2.1.9 Foreign Language
19.2.1.10 Computer Science
19.2.2

The school must offer at least eight of the following co-curricular activities:

19.2.2.1 Chorus
19.2.2.2 Band
19.2.2.3 Orchestra
19.2.2.4 Interscholastic sports
19.2.2.5 Intramural sports
19.2.2.6 Cheerleading
19.2.2.7 Club program
19.2.2.8 Community service
19.2.2.9 Scholastic Competition
19.2.2.10 National Junior Honor Society (reaccreditation only)
19.2.2.11 Prayer and Bible study groups
19.2.2.12 Fellowship of Christian Athletes
19.2.2.13 School Newspaper
19.2.2.14 Yearbook
19.2.2.15 Literary Magazine
19.2.2.16 Student Government
19.2.2.17 Chapel
19.2.2.18 Drama
19.2.2.19 Fine Art Competition or Shows

 

19.2.3 Instructional methods or strategies must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
19.2.4 The classroom equipment and furnishings must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
19.2.5 Instructional materials must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
19.2.6 Use of the library/media center for research, independent reading, and study must be evident.
19.2.7 Instruction in computer technology and integration of computerized learning must be evident.

Science and other laboratories must be furnished and equipped. Labs must comply with local and state codes for health and safety (e.g., showers in chemistry labs, safe storage of hazardous chemicals, etc.)
