6000.20: HIGH SCHOOL



20.1

Objectives

The High School’s curriculum (grades 9-12) must be well-defined, meet the State of Florida high school minimum academic requirements and be designed so as to train and equip students to become contributing citizens of God’s kingdom.

20.1.1 Gain a deeper understanding of God, His Word and its relevancy to personal faith and Christian walk
20.1.2 Develop an appreciation of various kinds of literature and literary styles
20.1.3 Develop competency in written communication
20.1.4 Develop confidence in expressing thoughts and opinions through oral communication and listening skills.
20.1.5 Develop competency in mathematics, abstract thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills
20.1.6 Develop a greater understanding of scientific principles through inquiry, experimentation
20.1.7 Develop a greater understanding of computer technology and its application, as well as skill in computer use.
20.1.8 Develop physical conditioning and wholesome health habits.
20.1.9 Develop an appreciation for the creative arts, as well as develop talent in artistic expression.
20.1.10 Develop an appreciation for other cultures.
20.1.11 the ability to think, act and research independently.
20.1.12 Provide opportunities for the development of personal interests or talents through a variety of activities.
20.1.13 Provide opportunities for Christian service.
20.1.14 Provide opportunities for interpersonal relationships and social interactions through a variety of activities and events.
20.1.15 Develop a fuller understanding of being created in the image of God.
20.1.16 Provide guidance and counsel for spiritual, academic, and emotional needs.
20.2 Program Standards
20.2.1 CSF recognizes two academic programs: (1) a college preparatory program; and (2) a general program. The college preparatory program must be academically demanding in depth and scope so as to prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills, and independence necessary to successfully pursue advanced learning at the college/university level. Both programs must be taught from a distinctly Christian viewpoint, integrating faith to learning.
20.2.1.1 CSF schools are authorized to establish requirements for high school graduation in excess of following minimum requirements.
20.2.1.2 The 24 minimum academic requirements as stated in the Course Code Directory published by the Florida Department of Education must include:

3 Bible
3 Social Studies and History
4 English
3 Science (two with laboratory)
3 Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
2 Foreign language (through second level of the same language required for college preparatory program)
½ Life Management Skills
1 Practical Arts or Performing Arts
1 Physical Education
1 Computer Education
1 ½ - 3 ½ Electives
20.2.1.3 Graduates must have cumulative 2.0 GPA for courses required for high school graduation.
20.2.1.4 Elective courses must be organized, planned, and conducted with the same validity as the other academic courses.
20.2.2

Activities vital to the growth and development of the secondary students must be evident. Activities are to be balanced with a fair share for girls and boys. The school must offer at least one activity in each of the following co-curricular areas:

20.2.2.1 Athletics
20.2.2.2 Spiritual Development
20.2.2.3 Arts
20.2.2.4 Community/School Service
20.2.2.5 Communications
20.2.2.6 Academic/Social Activities
20.2.3 Instructional methods or strategies must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
20.2.4 The classroom equipment and furnishings must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
20.2.5 Instructional materials must be adequate to meet the educational objectives and programs.
20.2.6 Use of the library/media center for research, independent reading, and study must be evident.
20.2.7 Instruction in computer technology and integration of computerized learning must be evident.
20.2.8 Science and other laboratories must be furnished and equipped. Labs must comply with local and state codes for health and safety (eg, showers in chemistry labs, safe storage of hazardous chemicals, etc.)
