FAANS Reports

Currently the following items are of major interest to nonpublic school generally and FAANS specifically during the 2004-2005 school years.

  1. Voluntary Universal Pre K

FAANS, NCPSA, and CITA were successfully included in the language of the bill enabling CSF schools to participate in the VUPK if they so choose. At the January meeting of CSF new standards for Pre K were approved, bringing CSF standards into compliance with those of FAANS and NCPSA.

The Governor signed the bill in early January.

FAANS will keep abreast of all initiatives important to implementation of this program.

The VUPK web site should be checked frequently for up-to-date information: http://www.upkflorida.org/

See news releases concerning the signing of this bill into law in the section on the CSF web site, Members Only>Legislative Happenings.
  2. The next meeting of FAANS will be held in Tallahassee on March 18th. This will be during the March Legislative Session.
  3. The status of the legal challenge to the Opportunity Scholarship Program is being watched closely. It is currently before the State Supreme Court. While the legal challenge does not include the other scholarship programs, a ruling by the Court declaring the OSP to be unconstitutional could set a precedent for other suits against the McKay Program, the Corporate Tax Scholarship Program, and the Voluntary Universal Pre K Program.
